More on the video:

A couple of years ago, Christafari began what we’ve been calling our “Backslider Series.”

Today we release Part 5 of the story. This video features Ray (a character who previously overdosed and went to rehab) now seeing outsiders rejected at a hyper-legalistic church. What will his response be?

Our “Outsiders (Victims of Tradition)” music video also features Mark and Avion on a search for more outsiders, just as they did in our “One Thing Remains” video.

You’ll also see our drummer Markus Ritchie playing a young Mark Mohr as a continuation of our “The Love of Jah” music video that chronicled the inception of Christafari.

In many ways this video is a coming together of what is now being dubbed as “Christafari‘s Cinematic Universe.”

This short film was inspired by true stories that took place in the 90s when Christafari was just getting started. Though it happened almost three decades ago, this controversial message is still relevant today and we believe it will resonate with many!

LYRICS:

Outsiders (Victims of tradition)
Lyrics by Mark Mohr

Wayo oh oh
This one’s for the fringe
To those who don’t fit in
We’re on the outside looking in

And this one’s for us fools
For breaking all the rules
Because your rules are not of Him

They call us victims of tradition
We’re on the outside looking in
Yet we’re surrounded by suspicions
Accused of being sin

Yes we are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in
We are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in

This ones for the crew
Who are trying to break through
But none of you will let us in

And this one’s for those rebels
Who would turn over all the tables
And unleash the zeal of the Father within

We’re victims of tradition
We’re on the outside looking in
Yet we’re surrounded by suspicion
Just because we don’t fit in

We are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in
We are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in

I’m not religious
I just love Jesus
It’s not about traditions
I just love the Lord

I’m not religious
I just love Jesus
I’m not about your traditions
No, I just love the Lord

We are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in
We are the outsiders (outsiders)
On the outside looking in

They’re calling me
Persona non grata
Because I sing this reggae music for the Father
Yes indeed
Persona non grata – woy – yeah!

Well I just wanna be a blessing
I just want to serve the Lord
But you kill me with committees
And you bore me with your boards
You take a good idea then you pick it apart
How do you judge me without looking in my heart
So Sadducees and Pharisee
No bother try judge me
I’m unconventional with no apology
Unorthodox with dreadlocks
(You) can’t keep me in a box
But I’m reaching to the fray
In a way that you cannot no way
Oh yeah!
Persona non grata
And so I’ll use my music to reach another
Yes Indeed
Persona non grata woy – yeah!

I guess I am an outsider (outsiders)
On the outside and I’m proud
I am an outsider (outsiders)
On the outside reaching out
